CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR 2025 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

Big Creek Lumber is honored to announce the 2025 recipients of the McCrary Family Scholarship, an award established to support local high school seniors pursuing careers in forestry and the skilled trades. The scholarship commemorates the legacy of Bud and Lud McCrary, who co-founded Big Creek Lumber in 1946 and believed in learning through experience.

This year, three outstanding new scholarship recipients’ students were selected: Hannah Bourgault, Sawyer Tankersley, and Lauren Lange. Plus we are excited to award four renewals Aiden Fay, Brody Legions, Emmanuel Frausto and Noah Nicholas.

Hannah Bourgault from Paso Robles High School
Major: Forestry and Fire Science, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
Hannah’s experience with field biology and fire service, including an internship with Paso Robles City Fire and FFA leadership, shaped her passion for forestry and wild

fire management. With a GPA over 4.0, she balances academics, athletics, and community service, and aspires to become a forester with Cal Fire.

Sawyer Tankersley from Gilroy High School
Major: Forestry and Fire Science, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
Sawyer currently works in land management and has a long-term goal of becoming a wildland fire pilot. He was deeply influenced by a tour with a Big Creek forester and hopes to one day work with the company. His leadership in FFA and commitment to environmental service made him a standout candidate.

Lauren Lange from Hollister High School
Major: Agricultural Business, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
Lauren, a dedicated 4-H member and student leader, plans to blend agricultural tradition with modern business practices. With a strong academic background and active campus involvement, she is pursuing a career in agricultural sales, inspired by hands-on learning and community impact.
